How to care for your swimwear

How to care for your swimwear Caring for your swimwear properly is important to ensure it lasts longer and maintains its quality. It is always best to read the care instructions on each swimsuit as instructions may vary from fabric to fabric. In lieu of instructions, here are some best-practice tips on how to care for your swimwear: Rinse your swimwear in cool water after every use. This will help remove chlorine, saltwater, and any other chemicals that can damage the fabric. Do not roll up wet or store wet. It is important not to leave your wet swimsuit wrapped inside a towel. Hand wash your swimwear with mild detergent. Avoid using harsh detergents, fabric softeners, or bleach, as these can damage the fabric and cause it to lose its elasticity. Do not wring or twist your swimwear. Instead, gently squeeze out excess water and lay it flat to dry. Avoid hanging your swimwear to dry, as this can cause it to stretch out of shape. Avoid exposing your swimwear to direct sunlight for prolonged periods. This can cause the colours to fade and the fabric to become brittle. Do not machine wash or tumble dry your swimwear. This can cause the fabric to stretch, lose its shape, or even tear. Fake tanning products and some sunscreen lotions may mark and damage swimwear. We recommend taking extra care when using these products and always ensure they are completely dry before they come in contact with your swimsuit. By following these tips, you can keep your swimwear looking great and feeling comfortable for many swim seasons to come. What happens if I stain my swimsuit with sunscreen? If your swimsuit (particularly light colours) becomes stained or yellowed from sunscreen, you can take these steps to restore it. Keep in mind these steps are only to be used as a last resort. It is a good option if your swimsuit had become unwearable due to the staining. Sunscreen contains oils and for them to be removed from fabric, some heat and detergent is required.   Wet the swimsuit and rub the yellowed areas with hand soap or dishwashing liquid. Then put swimsuit in lingerie bag and put in washing machine on a gentle cycle at 30 degrees. Wring out gently. Dry in the shade. If the stains are still there after performing these steps, try the above again but use Sard or Napisan in step 1. This is the best option for removing stains.
